Coaching Ethics

Because coaching is a collaborative process, it is essential to choose a coach who is a good fit for YOU.

Professionally trained and certified coaches will have had thorough ethical training to ensure that they are providing the highest standard of coaching while creating and maintaining a confidential, non-judgemental space for their clients. Coaches who are credentialed with one of the coaching bodies listed here are required to provide their services under the respective code of ethics for that body. By adhering to a code of ethics, this demonstrates a coaches commitment to professionalism, client welfare, and fairness, setting them apart as a trustworthy and credible service provider.   Where a coach fails to uphold these ethical standards, recourse is available through the complaints and investigation processes in the relevant code of ethics and disciplinary action may be taken by the relevant credentialing body.

The Value of Ethics

Coaching ethics are essential because they provide a framework for ensuring professionalism, trust, and accountability in the coach-client relationship. By establishing clear guidelines for behavior, confidentiality, and integrity, a code of ethics safeguards client well-being and promotes equitable and respectful interactions. It fosters trust by ensuring transparency and upholding commitments while preventing conflicts of interest or misconduct. Ethical standards also enhance the credibility of the coaching profession, ensuring coaches operate within their scope of expertise and prioritize continuous learning. Ultimately, coaching ethics not only protect clients but also strengthen the foundation of integrity and mutual respect that underpins effective coaching.
